How do PDO threads work?

Polydioxanone (PDO) is a synthetic fiber that completely dissolves in the tissue after some time. It is used in the production of skin and subcutaneous sutures. The treatment involves inserting PDO threads under the skin (in selected areas) using a very thin needle. After insertion, the needle is removed and a dressing is applied to the skin. The treatment used creates a scaffold around which the body starts the process of neocollagenesis (production of new collagen fibers), stimulating fibroblasts to increase the synthesis of elastin and the synthesis of endogenous hyaluronic acid.
